We’re desperately seeking this piece of fashion history — and so is Madonna.
The Queen of Pop celebrated the 40th anniversary of her movie “Desperately Seeking Susan” by bringing back an iconic piece from its costume closet.
Madge, 66, shared an Instagram post Monday marking International Transgender Day of Visibility as well as the film’s milestone — and modeling the very same pyramid-embroidered jacket she wore in the 1985 flick.
“Happy Trans Visibility Day!! And Happy 40th anniversary of my first film- Desperately Seeking Susan!! We celebrated this weekend by attending a fashion show called, MOTHER -DAUGHTER-HOLY SPIRIT!!” she wrote on Instagram alongside a slideshow with fellow celebrity guests including trans model Alex Consani, Julia Fox and more.
“All money raised will go to the Trans Justice Funding Project! Thank you, to All for showing up.”
Pulled by costume designer Santo Loquasto, the 1950s-era blazer plays a key role in “Desperately Seeking Susan”; Rosanna Arquette’s character is mistaken for Madonna’s after slipping it on.
The jacquard jacket also appears in Madge’s “Into the Groove” music video.
But according to a CNN interview with the movie’s director, Susan Seidelman, the pop icon wasn’t a fan of the look at the time.
“In a way the pyramid jacket is used as a symbol of transformation,” Seidelman said. “The idea wasn’t that Roberta was becoming Madonna’s (character); it was that she was becoming a more empowered version of herself. She’s not there yet, but she’s on the way.”
Julien’s Auctions sold the piece for $87,500 in 2016 as part of its Music Icons collection, which included pieces from Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley and more.
Fans on smaller budgets can get their hands on an officially licensed version on eBay for a more modest four figures — or snag a costume on Amazon for less than $200.
“Looking as fabulous as ever! DSS jacket = LEGENDARY! 🙌,” one fan commented on Madonna’s Instagram post, while another wrote, “Suzan [sic] is back ! Hotness all around 🫀”
