Hong Kong star Louis Koo and his production company One Cool Film have challenged a lawsuit filed against them over an alleged unpaid loan from 2019.
In a statement on Sept 4, One Cool Film said the case presented by Sino Hero Ventures, a company registered in the British Virgin Islands, was “incomplete”.
One Cool Film claimed the offshore firm had been removed from the company registry and dissolved for nearly three years, during which they were unable to reach their legally authorised representatives.
According to the South China Morning Post, the production house also alleged that Sino Hero Ventures disclosed information that was protected by confidentiality agreements, adding: “The company reserves all rights to pursue the matter. We will handle this matter with lawyers in a solemn manner.”
It was previously reported that Sino Hero Ventures sued One Cool Film for more than HK$149 million (S$24 million) as they allegedly failed to repay a HK$70 million loan from September 2019.
The loan was initially due for repayment in September the following year, with interest charged at 12 per cent a year. Under the agreement, the interest rate would rise to 18 per cent a year if the loan was not repaid on time.
The deadline was later extended twice, and the final deadline was set for end-2022.
Sino Hero Ventures claimed One Cool Film had repaid only HK$13.9 million as at 2024, before making another payment of HK$70,000 in August this year following repeated demands for repayment.
On Sept 6, Louis, who turns 56 next month, made a cryptic post on Weibo titled Honesty.
Attaching a photo of himself drinking a can of Coca-Cola, he wrote: “As long as you live in society, it’s impossible to be completely left alone. All conflict ends with inner peace.
“There’s no need to rush to defend yourself. Quietly doing your own thing is the greatest honesty.”
