Wayne Rooney turned heads on Wednesday (Sept 23) at the premiere of Disney’s The Real Rooneys.
Captioning a sneak preview on its social media on Sept 17, Disney wrote: “As you’ve never seen them before.”
But it was this ‘new’ Wayne Rooney — glowing, looking visibly sharp and slimmer — that has not been seen in recent times.
The 40-year-old had struggled with weight issues during his playing days, but the issue became pronounced in 2024 when he was seen sporting a belly and looking older than his age.
Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the premiere, Rooney said that he had “worked really hard” in the gym to lose weight.
He denied rumours that he had used weight loss injections.
“Apparently I’ve seen recently I’ve been taking this pen thing about me. It’s a shame, because I’m working really hard to lose weight.”
But the footballer-turned-manager did admit to having gone under the knife for his nose.
“My nose wasn’t a cosmetic job, it was a medical job,” Rooney told the Daily Mail, explaining that he broke his nose while playing for DC United in the US, which caused him to have a snoring issue and being unable to blow his nose on one side.
The Real Rooneys streams on Disney on Sept 24, with Rooney and his wife, Coleen, lifting the lid on their relationship, including times when they had doubts about their marriage.
