Michael Cera and Michael Angarano hit the road in the comedy Sacramento.
Vertical released the official trailer for the upcoming film Sacramento on Thursday. The trailer shows pregnant Rosie (Kristen Stewart) encouraging her husband, Glenn (Michael Cera), to reconnect with his estranged friend, Rickey (Angarano), after his dad dies. Together, they go on a California road trip and reflect on their past.
The Sky High star directs the road trip comedy and stars in it with Tallie (played by Maya Erskine), his real-life wife. Angarano also co-wrote the film along with Chris Smith. Leslie Braun serves as the executive producer.
While the road trip comedy is Cera and Stewart’s first project together, it’s a reunion for Angarano and Stewart, who starred together in 2004’s Speak, where they met. The pair then dated in real life from 2005 to 2009.
In June, Sacramento, which is Angarano’s second directorial effort, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter wrote in its review at the time: “Angarano and Chris Smith’s slight screenplay details the relationship between Ricky and Glenn just enough to keep the narrative moving, but more information, especially about the two men, would have elevated Sacramento. It’s through these anecdotes about the past that a real story — a prickly account of arrested development and the awkwardness of growing apart — emerges out of a collection of otherwise engaging enough conversations and solid comedic bits … Sacramento is, at its best, about embracing the vulnerable insights that emerge from these encounters.”
Sacramento will be released in theaters on April 11.
