Four years later, Kim Kardashian still keeps herself up at night with regrets about her Marilyn Monroe moment.
Ahead of this year’s Met Gala, the “Kardashians” star filmed a vlog for her final fitting, reflecting on first Mondays in May past.
“If someone’s like, ‘what’s your biggest regret in life?’ you’d think a lot of other things …” Kardashian begins in recounting the story of her 2022 Met Gala look.
While fans criticized the star for sourcing the exact dress that Norma Jeane wore while singing “Happy Birthday” to then-president John F. Kennedy, the makeup mogul was unhappy with her glam.
“We had too much going on. You were doing every family member,” she admonished her team, hairstylist Chris Appleton and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic. “We weren’t focused.”
Pulling up a photo, Kardashian deadpans, “Everyone f—ked up here. Let’s just say that.”
As Appleton and Dedivanovic make fun of each other’s questionable choices — from eyeliner to hairstyle — Kardashian weighs in: “It was all about the hair. I’ll fight you on that until the day I die.”
“I think about it once a week,” the Skims designer admitted.
She pushed for a wig that would make her look exactly like the late actress, but was later convinced to actually dye her black hair platinum blond and pull it back into a bun.
“Everyone was telling me, ‘Don’t do Marilyn hair because you’ll look like a wax figure of her,’” she was cautioned.
Scrolling through her phone at photos of herself in September 2022, dressed in a more literal Monroe look for Dolce & Gabbana, she sighed, “That would have been iconic.”
The 45-year-old has previously admitted, “I’ve actually photoshopped it 500 different ways after the fact — like, last year — to see,” adding, “Should it have been a Marilyn vibe hair in blond … should it have been more of a Jackie O dark? Either one of these would have worked.”
Kardashian and Appleton previously revealed that it took “14 hours straight” to lift the color of her typically jet-black locks.
As for 2026? She’s learned to keep things temporary. Kardashian again went blond — this time a warmer shade — but opted for a wig.
