Kim Kardashian didn’t have any funds after her divorce from Damon Thomas — so she used the money sister Khloé Kardashian saved in her childhood piggy bank to get back on her feet.
During the Thursday, March 6, episode of The Kardashians, Kim, 44, thanked Khloé, 40, for helping in her time of need.
“When Khloé was maybe 4 or 5 years old, she got this piggy bank in the shape of a Coca-Cola bottle. We would put so much money in it,” Kim recalled. “When I was getting my first divorce, I moved out and had no money. I was like 21 and she gave me her Coke bottle.”
Kim was able to move into her own place, adding, “We were up all night counting it and it was 6,000 dollars and it was enough for me to get a downpayment on my apartment. She gave me her life savings at age 21.”
Meanwhile in a separate confessional, Khloé explained the decision.
“She was crying in my room and I was just like, ‘I have this so let’s take what is in here and go to the bank to cash it. Let’s use this money for your divorce,’” she shared. “I gave her all that I got and hopefully helped her.”
At 19, Kim married Thomas, now 54, whom she divorced before her debut on Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007. The duo, who had a 10-year age difference, were married for three years until they called it quits in 2003.
Nearly one decade later, Kim got engaged to Kris Humphries in 2011 following a whirlwind romance. Kim and Humphries, now 40, tied the knot in 2011 but split after 72 days of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in April 2013 following a lengthy court battle.
Kim moved on from Humphries with longtime friend Kanye West. One year after welcoming daughter North, the couple got married in 2014. They later welcomed son Saint in 2015, daughter Chicago in 2018 and son Psalm in 2019. In February 2021, Kim filed for divorce after nearly seven years of marriage.
“I’ve been there when you don’t foresee something happening that really changes a person’s personality and then they aren’t the same person,” she said in a February episode of The Kardashians while seemingly referring to West’s controversial behavior on social media. “You can’t ever get that person back but you can’t live with the new person. I get it.”
She continued: “It is tougher when you don’t want your marriage to end for personal reasons but circumstances change that force your marriage to end. I have been there and Khloé has been there. When you weren’t planning on that and it isn’t really the outcome you want but there’s no other option, it makes it harder to get over.”
Since their split, Kim has since been linked to Pete Davidson and Odell Beckham Jr. — but she isn’t in a rush to get married again.
“I think I am definitely going to be really cautious because I maybe have proven that I am not the best at [marriage]. And I don’t want to make that mistake again,” she said during the June 2022 episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna. “Sometimes I think, ‘Should I just be in one of those relationships like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell [who are together but not married]?’ It seems to be working out for them.”
New episodes of The Kardashians air on Hulu every Thursday.
