Pop star joins Jeff Bezos-backed mission for a brief taste of space — and a big moment for women in space tourism.

Pop icon Katy Perry is preparing for the ride of a lifetime this Monday — but it won’t be a stage she’s stepping onto. Instead, the American singer will be strapped into a Blue Origin rocket, joining five other women for a short suborbital trip beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

The launch is set for 8:30am local time (3:30pm Spain time) from west Texas, aboard a fully automated New Shepard rocket owned by Jeff Bezos’ space firm, Blue Origin. Among the crew is Lauren Sanchez, Bezos’ fiancée, along with a mix of scientists, activists and media figures — all women, in what will be the first ever all-female space flight.

Katy Perry’s space flight: 10 minutes in zero gravity

The mission, which will last just over ten minutes, is a brief but powerful experience. The rocket will launch vertically, sending the capsule beyond the Karman line — the internationally recognised edge of space, 100km above sea level.

Once in microgravity, the crew will unstrap from their seats and float freely, before the capsule begins its descent back to Earth, slowed by parachutes and a retro-rocket.

This marks Blue Origin’s 11th suborbital human flight, as the company continues to build out its space tourism programme — though ticket prices remain under wraps.

Katy Perry goes to space to inspire her child

For Perry, this journey isn’t just about adventure — it’s about legacy. In a recent interview with Elle, she said she’s doing it for her daughter Daisy, whom she shares with actor Orlando Bloom.

“I want to show her that there are no limits,” said the singer. “I can’t wait to see the look in her eyes when she sees the rocket take off, and she goes to school the next day and says, ‘My mum went to space.’

Joining Perry are film producer Kerianne Flynn, Amanda Nguyen, the founder of an NGO fighting sexual violence, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, and veteran broadcaster Gayle King. Together, they’ll make history — if only for ten minutes — as the first all-women crew to cross into space.

And for Katy Perry, the woman who once sang about kissing girls and chasing dreams, it’s a new kind of launch altogether.
