Katey Sagal opened up about having a baby at age 52 after telling her husband she had ‘five minutes left’ to have kids.
The 72-year-old actress, who is known for appearing in shows such as Married… With Children and Sons Of Anarchy, discussed the topic during Wednesday’s episode of the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast.
Sagal welcomed her youngest daughter Esme, 19, with husband Kurt Sutter in 2007 via surrogate. She is also mom to Sarah, 31, and Jackson, 30, whom she shares with ex-husband and actor Jack White.
‘I had a child at 52 through a surrogate, but I became a mother again at 52,’ she told host Ted Danson.
‘My husband is six years younger than I am. And when we met, he was like, “I don’t wanna have any kids.” And I was like, “Okay, because I have about five minutes left if you wanna have kids.”‘
However, after having a few years to think about it, Sutter changed his mind.

‘About five years in, we started really talking about it, and we did the whole surrogate process.’
The Hollywood actress then added, ‘This is Esme, my sweet Esme, who’s 19. She’s my favorite right now. Kids, I love you all.’
The Shameless star further expressed to Danson that, ‘We continue to live life, we don’t just fold up and die.’
Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Sagal for comment, but has yet to hear back.
Sagal previously reflected on welcoming her third child in her 50s during a past interview with People.
She explained that Sutter had been ‘happy being the stepparent to Sarah and Jackson.
‘But he’d never had his own biological children, so about five years into the relationship we started toying with the idea of maybe we should raise a child together.’
Sagal stated that she had been ‘too old to carry a child’ so both she and Sutter had initially looked into adoption which turned out to be ‘difficult.’

The star ‘went through the whole in vitro fertilization process and our embryos were not really strong.’
Sagal and her husband ‘thought, “Let’s give it a shot and if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.” And if it wasn’t, we weren’t going to do it.
‘But then our little Esme came through. That’s why we call her our little miracle, our beautiful miracle.’
The 19-year-old is currently studying at college and is visiting home before the new semester begins.
During the latest podcast appearance, the actress revealed that her children have been following in her entertainment footsteps.
Her son Jackson is known for his roles on the screen in projects such as Tell Me Lies, Swiped and Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
‘He’s doing quite well as an actor. He’s in Australia right now making a movie, but he’s on a television show called Tell Me Lies on Hulu.’
Sagal added, ‘They just finished their third season, so he just kind of blew up. My sweet son.’

Last year during an episode of the MeSsy podcast, the actress said that her son ‘hates’ being labeled as a nepo baby.
‘He didn’t lean into any of that. You know, he has a different last name than me,’ she explained.
‘And a lot of people don’t know that he’s my kid, and he takes a lot of pride in that. As does Sarah, my daughter does as well.’
Sarah has also appeared on the screen, but is a musician as well.
Back in 2023, she released an album titled Are You Here This Time and has dropped tracks such as Ride.
Sagal told Danson that ‘my oldest daughter has made the most beautiful record that she wrote and produced and she’s amazing.
‘And just to see the process of how you have to be able to market yourself now, like, where you’d have to pay [labels] back, but they’d give you money, so that you could just be an artist and they do all the selling.’
Back in 2022, Sagal’s son Jackson revealed the advice that his famous mom gave to him as he pursued his passion for acting.

‘Don’t do it. Do something else,’ he revealed to People. ‘I wasn’t allowed to act until I was 18. I had to grow up first.’
