Blue Fox Entertainment has set a U.S. theatrical release on March 27 for Holy Days, which is Riverdale star Nat Boltt’s directorial debut that features Judy Davis, Miriam Margolyes, Jacki Weaver and rising star Elijah Tamati.
Photon Films will handle a theatrical release in Canada also on March 27 after Holy Days world premieres at the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Feb. 5. A theatrical release in New Zealand is set for Feb. 26 and a May release in Australia is also on the cards.
Blue Fox as the sales agent for the comedic adventure pic will continue shopping Holy Days to foreign buyers at Sundance and the European Film Market in Berlin. The film has Davis, Weaver and Margolyes playing unconventional and elderly nuns on a road trip in New Zealand with a young boy played by Tamati as they go on a quest to retrieve his late mother from heaven before his father’s new girlfriend, Liz (Boltt) takes her place.
Their reluctant partnership blossoms into a bond of faith and friendship as they complete their once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Holy Days is written and directed by Boltt and is based on a novel by Dame Joy Cowley.
The Canada-New Zealand production between Velvet Moss and Lily Pictures is produced by Emma Slade, Michelle Morris, Victoria Dabbs, Roxi Bull, and Sushant Desai. Filmed on location in New Zealand, Holy Days was made with financing from the New Zealand Film Commission, New Zealand Screen Production, Telefilm Canada, Creative BC, CBC Films and Elemental Post.
