Joy Behar revealed her birth name – Josephine Victoria – on Tuesday’s edition of The View, which marked her return to the ABC panel after six missed episodes.
Whoopi Goldberg, 70, told Behar, 83, about a rumor going around ‘that someone in the audience is naming their baby after you.’
The Emmy-winning TV personality responded, ‘I heard that too, as a middle name.’
Behar continued, ‘You have to know that Joy is a noun, so it always comes up in Christmas and all sorts of ways – just remember that – it’s confusing sometimes.’
Behar opened up about her birth name and the reason it never stuck throughout her life.
‘My real name is Josephine Victoria, but my grandfather called me Joy, my Italian grandfather,’ she said.

Behar added, ‘From infancy, I was always known as Joy – as a middle name, I think it’s a really good choice.’
She joked that she thinks the holiday standard Joy To The World is about her.
The chat came on a Hot Topics panel chat about how the show’s Alyssa Farah Griffin is about to become a mom.
Behar had not been seen on the show since the January 23 broadcast; two of the missed dates fell on Mondays, which she typically takes off.
Goldberg made a brief statement last week acknowledging Behar’s absence from the panel.
‘We want to let you know Joy is out, she’s not feeling well, so we want her to feel better and get her behind back here,’ Goldberg said.
Behar previously had to sit out four episodes last autumn after she suffered an injury to her foot.
‘I dropped my iPad on my foot and I broke my toe,’ Behar said in November.
