Jonathan Nolan has seen a completed cut of The Odyssey and has some strong praise for his brother’s latest effort.

The Fallout executive producer — who has frequently collaborated with his brother Christopher on past projects (such as The Prestige and his Batman trilogy) — says the classical epic is a spectacular experience.

“I’m not working on The Odyssey,” he told CinemaBlend. “I have seen The Odyssey. It’s tremendous. It’s an incredible achievement. … I was fascinated by The Iliad and The Odyssey when I was younger, and I had some fun conversations with Chris about where he’s taking it. It’s a spectacular film.”

Pressed on whether he’s seen the full film, the younger Nolan replied, “I’m not sure I’m supposed to say that but, yes, it’s tremendous.”

Last fall, actor Tom Holland told reporters The Odyssey had “the best script I’ve ever read.” Holland plays Telemachus, son of star Matt Damon’s Odysseus in the film.

Earlier this week, The Odyssey made headlines in an unfortunate way after Elon Musk opined that Nolan has “lost his integrity” over speculation that actress Lupita Nyong’o would play Helen of Troy. Musk was replying to a user who argued that Helen in the Greek epic poem is “fair-skinned, blonde and ‘the face that launched a thousand ships’ because she was so beautiful that men started a war over her.” The person also called the unconfirmed casting “an insult to the author.”

The Odyssey, of course, was written by Homer, who has been dead for 2,700 years.

The Odyssey will set sail on July 17 from Universal Pictures. Below is the trailer.
