Cut government spending — not hands.
Jon Stewart accidentally sliced his hand open while filming a segment about President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency on “The Daily Show” Monday night.
The talk show host, 62, was ranting about the Elon Musk-run DOGE in a passionate monologue when the gory incident unfolded.
“The companies we subsidize with billions of dollars are allowing us the privilege to negotiate the price of 10 of their drugs,” Stewart said.
“And 10 is all of them, right?” he continued. “It would be embarrassing if it was a small drop in the bucket, and that the American people didn’t expect that we should negotiate for all their f—-king drugs, because we have already paid for them with our subsidies! It is f—king insane!”
He then picked up his World’s Most Dad coffee mug and smashed it on his desk in anger, yelling, “Come on!” As the crowd cheered, Stewart looked down at his hand and realized that he had a bloody gash.
“I’ll be going to the hospital soon,” he joked before hiding his wounded hand behind his desk and continuing to weigh in on the government group for nearly four more minutes.
At one point, the audience gasped in horror as he flashed his battered fingers, prompting Stewart to shout, “It’s fine!” before laughing to himself and continuing his speech. At the end of his commentary, Stewart was seen squeezing a tissue in his hand to sop up the bloody injury.
Fans flooded social media to comment on the comedian’s ability to perform with such an injury.
“How did he keep going with his hand sliced like that? Mad Props!” a fan commented on Instagram.
“What a speaker man! Cut his hand because that passion spilled over like crazy and didn’t stop till the full message was delivered,” a supporter said.
“You’re a cut above the rest Jon. You serve the truth with furvor [sic]. Sometimes the truth hurts. Sorry it almost cost you a finger. No bandaid big enough to stop the bleeding of America,” a netizen added.
“Absolutely brilliant. And bleeding profusely through so much of it,” another chimed in.
It’s unclear if he did end up going to the hospital. Page Six has reached out to Stewart’s rep for comment.
