Former star actor of hit UK series Doctor Who, John Barrowman, feels his new Wales tour will revitalise his career after a “devastating” last three years following his accusations of flashing on the set of BBC spin-off Torchwood.

Barrowman, who was a judge on ITV’s dancing on ice, before the accusations came to light and he was subsequently axed, gave a statement to news outlets, insisting he was “blackballed”, and that he has been let down by many as a result of his actions, which he didn’t see any harm in at all, but is sorry for nevertheless.

Never intended to be sexual in nature in “tomfoolery” behaviour

He said to the Mirror: “My high-spirited behaviour which was only ever intended in good humour to entertain colleagues on set and backstage has been well-documented. There were a couple of times during filming where I would resort to tomfoolery, but none of this was ever intended nor interpreted as being sexual in nature.”

Many believe the star’s future hopes of hitting the big screen again are now in tatters, with media portraying him to the public as somewhat of a predator.

He continued, stating: “With the benefit of hindsight, I understand that upset may have been caused in my exuberant behaviour and I have since apologised for this. At no point was I ever made aware of any sexual harassment, bullying or sexually predatory behaviour on set.”

Kicks off new Wales tour in February, is confident in revitalising career

He returns to Wales for the second leg of his Laid Bare tour which kicks off again in February, with shows in Swansea, Carmarthen, Llandudno, Newtown, Breacon, Aberdare and Newport. He spoke to Welsh publication Wales Online with high hopes for the remainder of the tour and what it will do to change his public perception, which according to the actor has scuppered his acting opportunities massively.

“I ended up being good clickbait and it has lasted for three years. It has been devastating to the point where I was blackballed. I can’t get into a room or an audition or a meeting anymore.

“For Laid Bare I really wanted to get around Wales and do some of the regional theatres and feel closer to the audience. Laid Bare is exactly that – we’re stripping it back. You’re going to be entertained, going to learn things about me you might not expect me to talk about. It’s a bit of everything really.”

He continued, talking about some of the things attendees might expect from the show: “There is a question and answer session with the audience and they can ask anything they want to ask. I’ve had the most frivolous to really the hardest questions but I’ll answer them all.”

He concluded by saying: “I don’t think I’ll ever be at peace because I don’t think I deserved what happened to me. But I am content with where I am at. I’ve seen a therapist. I’ve done everything I needed to but what I will never get over is how people turned their backs on me because I’m loyal.”
