The Versace jungle dress is back, and Jennifer Lopez approves.
The pop star praised Prime Video’s hit series “Off Campus” on X Monday after a clip of star Mika Abdalla wearing a re-creation of her famous 2000 Grammys Versace jungle dress went viral.
In the scene — from the show’s second episode — Abdalla’s character, Allie Hayes, arrives at a costume party in the plunging green gown when Lopez’s “On the Floor” blares through the speakers.
“Oh my god, wait! This is me!” she shrieks, moving to the music as Stephen Kalyn’s Dean Di Laurentis, decked out as a “Top Gun” pilot with his flight suit unbuttoned, sidles over to join her.
“love this shooooww,” Lopez wrote on X Monday, reposting the clip, which another user had captioned, “chemistry so crazy i held my breath the entire scene.”
Last week, Abdalla told Betches UK just how much work went into the look.
“It was unreal. They built that thing from scratch,” she said. “My first fitting was like, put on this nude leotard and we’re going to cut it up and pin all this s—t to you. It was like five fittings. It was insane. I was so taped in. I was ready to dance the night away — and I did.”
Lopez can relate to the tape situation; she previously shared that her team’s chief concern with the navel-baring dress at the time was “whether or not my boobs were gonna pop out onstage.” Ultimately, though, she said, “There was never any danger of that. I was so securely stuck into that thing that there was gonna be no mishaps.”
The tropical-print Versace became one of the most searched-for looks in internet history — so much so that it inspired the creation of Google Image Search.
Lopez gave the gown a second lap in 2019, closing Versace’s spring 2020 runway show in Milan in an updated version that showed even more skin than the original.
“Off Campus,” a college romance series based on author Elle Kennedy’s bestselling book series, premiered on Prime Video on May 13.
