Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about her preferences when it comes to filming sex scenes.
Lawrence, 35, explained that she gets “anxiety” before filming new movies during a conversation with Josh Horowitz about her film Die My Love at 92NY on Wednesday, January 7, according to People. For this reason, the actress prefers to film the sex scenes first, especially when she and her costar are strangers.
Lawrence added that she and her Die My Love costar Robert Pattinson did a “naked sex tiger” scene during their first day of filming.
“It was actually easier that way because Rob and I did not know each other, which is kind of better, you know?” she continued.
Lawrence compared the situation to scenes with her Hunger Games costar Josh Hutcherson. (The pair formed a close bond while working together on the film franchise.)
“Like in Hunger Games, like me and Josh Hutcherson would have to kiss and that’s like … Imagine it,” she shared. “You know, it’s weirder and so yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable.”
Lawrence said it was “embarrassing” to film the “tiger” scenes in Die My Love, which involved the No Hard Feelings star and Pattinson, 39, attacking each other like tigers. She and her costar took “interpretive dance lessons” to make them feel more comfortable.
“We got to Calgary like three weeks before we started shooting. Rob and I both [are] embarrassed very easily, and that was mortifying. It was, I mean, I’m not … a dancer, Rob’s [the] worst dancer,” she joked. “And, and it was like, now blow like a tree — like it was just so embarrassing. So I think by the time she was like, ‘Yeah, get naked.’ We were just kind of like, ‘OK, at least it’s not interpretive dance …’”
Die My Love, which debuted in theaters in November 2025, stars Lawrence as Grace, a young mother and writer who is “slowly slipping into madness.” Her increasingly erratic behavior begins to worry her companion, Jackson (Pattinson).
Lawrence revealed before the film’s release that she refused an intimacy coordinator for her sex scenes with Pattinson because he isn’t “pervy.”
“We did not have [an intimacy coordinator], or maybe we did but we didn’t really,” the Silver Linings Playbook star said on the “Las Culturistas” podcast at the time. I felt really safe with Rob. He is not pervy and very in love with [his partner] Suki Waterhouse.”
Lawrence added that she and Pattinson spent a lot of time “talking about our kids and relationships.” (Lawrence shares son Cy, 3, and a second son born in 2025 with husband Cooke Maroney. Meanwhile, Pattinson shares a 15-month-old daughter with fiancée Waterhouse, 34.)
“There was never any weird like, ‘Does he think I like him?’” she continued. “If there was a little bit of that I would probably have an intimacy coordinator. A lot of male actors get offended if you don’t want to f*** them, and then the punishment starts. He was not like that.”
Lawrence also recalled in a Q&A with Vulture that being pregnant while filming Die My Love helped her conquer insecurities about filming nude scenes.
“I don’t care about nudity. I’m not sensitive about it,” she said. “I think being pregnant took a lot of vanity anxiety away. Before [filming her 2023 comedy] No Hard Feelings, I was dieting and not eating carbs and working out. I was pregnant [for Die My Love]. Like, what was I gonna do? Not eat? I was working 15 hours a day. I was just tired.”
