Jennifer Garner said the hardest part of her divorce from Ben Affleck was the breaking up of her family and losing a “true partnership.”
“The Last Thing He Told Me” actress, 53, made a rare comment about the media coverage surrounding the couple’s 2015 divorce and the difficulty of being in the public eye.
“It doesn’t serve me to take in gossip about myself or anyone else, much less my kids, so I don’t do it,” she told Marie Claire in a new interview published Wednesday.
“You have to be smart about what you can and can’t handle, and I could not handle what was out there. But what was out there was not what was hard.”
She continued, “The fact of it is what was hard. The actual breaking up of a family is what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard.”
Garner was married to the “Good Will Hunting” star for 10 years until they called it quits in 2015. Their divorce was finalized in October 2018.
The exes share three children together: Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13.
Garner has since moved on with boyfriend, John Miller. Though, she still manages to spend a significant amount of family time with Affleck despite their split.
Last month, she and Miller were spotted exchanging Christmas gifts by their cars in Los Angeles just before the big holiday.
However, just days prior, Garner was spotted out with Affleck, 53, enjoying a family night at the theater with their middle child.
The trio hit the Hollywood Pantages Theater for a performance of “Stereophonic,” according to photos.
The “13 Going on 30” star even remained a close friend for her ex following his 2024 divorce from Jennifer Lopez, whom he married in 2022.
Amid his breakup from the “Let’s Get Loud” singer, Affleck was spotted on several occasions spending time with Garner and their kids including for Thanksgiving 2024.
“Even though Ben and Jen have been split for a while now, he feels a certain level of comfort with her,” an insider exclusively told Page Six at the time.
“Ben has a strong relationship with Jen that will never dissipate because they have a lot of history together and she’s the mother of his kids.”
