Jelly Roll’s wife, Bunnie Xo, experienced “horrific” suicidal ideation while taking a GLP-1 last year.
In a new interview with People, published Friday, the 46-year-old explained that December 2025 “was a rough month” for her due to a side effect of semaglutide.
“That was one of the darkest times of my life and it was scary,” the “Dumb Blonde” podcast host said, noting that she previously “prided [her]self on the fact that [she] only had anxiety” and “never had depression.”
However, she was recently “slammed with suicidal ideation and visions.”
“You want to have anxiety because you want to be scared to die,” Bunnie Xo, born Alyssa DeFord, continued. “You don’t want to have depression because you literally don’t care if you want to die. So yeah, it was really dark.”
She continued on, explaining that she wants “people … to talk more about this” — and sent an empowering message to those suffering from the same thoughts.
“I just want people to know you’re not alone,” she told the outlet. “Everybody goes through ups and downs and you are worth staying here. Please stay. Everybody, please stay because you’re here for a reason and you’re going through this, but do not make a permanent decision based on a temporary emotion because it will go away.”
As for why she started taking a weight-loss drug in the first place, Bunnie Xo said her “insulin numbers are really crazy and [her] body just cannot tolerate it.”
The former escort, whose parents both had diabetes, quipped, “I wish I could be part of the cool crowd and be skinny and freaking not have a care in the world.”
When her husband, 41, went viral for a slimdown of his own in recent years, he was vocal about not using Ozempic to shed 275 pounds.
“As a singer, few things scare me more than acid reflux,” he explained on Bunnie Xo’s podcast. “That stuff will just rip the vocal cords.”
In addition to walking 10,000 steps a day and eating a high-protein diet to lose weight, the country singer started seeing a therapist.
“Now I’m just feeding myself for what I need. Like I actually have a healthy relationship with food,” he told “The Joe Rogan Experience” listeners in December 2025.
The Grammy winner got emotional at the time, remembering both his partner and his daughter, Bailee Ann, 17, “cheering” him on.
He and Bunnie Xo have been married since August 2016 and renewed their vows seven years later at the same Las Vegas chapel.
Jelly Roll, born Jason Bradley DeFord, welcomed Bailee Ann, as well as son Noah, from previous relationships.
