Looks like Venice is getting ready to host a very VIP celebration — Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are reportedly tying the knot there this June. The city’s mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, confirmed the news on Sunday, adding that preparations are already well underway.

While the couple themselves haven’t officially commented, local sources say the big day (or days) will happen between 24 and 26 June, with around 200 guests expected to attend. Safe to say, it’s shaping up to be a proper A-list affair.

On Saturday, Venice’s city hall put out a statement calling the idea ‘fake news’, and Mayor Brugnaro was equally firm: “Anyone who loves Venice is always welcome.” He also made it clear that the organisers have been working closely with the city to make sure the celebration doesn’t get in the way of Venice’s daily life — or damage its charm.

The wedding is just another moment in the spotlight for Venice, which sees huge tourist numbers every summer. With fewer than 50,000 locals living in the city year-round, the crowds can be overwhelming. That’s partly why city officials introduced a new day-tripper fee, charging up to €10 for visitors who aren’t staying overnight. Hotel guests are exempt, since they already pay a local tax.

But if anyone thought this would dampen the buzz around the Bezos wedding — think again. It’s going ahead, and Venice is getting ready. As one local put it: “We’re used to crowds — but this one’s going to be something special.”
