Jamie Lee Curtis couldn’t hold back her emotions while discussing the fire-ravaged Pacific Palisades.
The actress admitted on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that she was “literally just about to cry” as soon as she sat down for her interview Wednesday.
“As you know, where I live is on fire right now,” she said while tearing up. “Literally the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning.”
Curtis, 66, explained that she had flown to New York City on Tuesday and “started getting texts” from the plane.
“It’s f–king gnarly. It’s just a catastrophe,” the Oscar winner said. “This is literally where I live. Everything. The market I shop in, the schools my kids go to … many, many, many friends have lost their homes.
“It’s a really awful situation. I’m also gonna go home first thing tomorrow and be with my family and try to help my friends.”
Curtis lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Christopher Guest, with whom she shares two children.
Prior to her talk show appearance, the “Freaky Friday” star told her Instagram followers that her home was “possibly” on fire amid “conflicting reports.”
She wrote, “My family is safe. … It is a terrifying situation and I’m grateful to the firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze.”
Curtis has continued to highlight the devastation in the area, including a Palisades church that has burned to the ground.
In the middle of posting harrowing snaps of the destruction, the “Halloween” star thanked Jimmy Fallon for greeting her with “such warmth” during a difficult time.
“The hug he gave me in support of my fragile feelings will always be remembered, and I leave New York City with the hopes and prayers and good thoughts from all in the East Coast as I return home to the best coast and my beloved City of Angels to help start to repair and rebuild,” she wrote.
Curtis noted that it felt “complicated” to engage in comedy “in the midst of such a profound tragedy across the country.”
California has been in a state of emergency since Wednesday, and at least five people have died from the fires.
