James Van Der Beek shared a tragic post about New Year’s resolutions just weeks before his heartbreaking death aged 48.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that the beloved Dawson’s Creek star and father-of-six had passed away in a hospice following a two-year long battle with colon cancer.

Much to the pain of fans, in a video he shared on 15 January, James spoke about resolutions being ‘impossible to keep’ when made at the start of the year – instead saying New Year’s resolutions should be made in Spring.

The devastating video illustrated James’ hopes for the future as he even joked in the comments section about making March his dedicated month.

In the clip, he said: ‘Anyone else out there finding that your New Year’s resolution was impossible to keep? I’m going to say something: I don’t think it’s your fault. Why are we celebrating a new year in the dead of winter?…

‘Why are we celebrating new beginnings at a time when nature rests? I’m going to take winter to recover, to rest, and I’m going to make New Year’s resolutions in the spring. Who’s with me?…

‘Animals are hibernating! Birds fly south for the winter! The time to celebrate a new beginning, and a new you, and a new resolution, is in the spring, at the vernal equinox, when the flowers bloom, and it gets warmer, and the birds return…

‘That’s how nature does it. Why are we fighting nature?’

In an accompanying caption, he wrote: ‘In the winter, the days are shorter and the nights are longer. But instead of being reminded how perfect this season is for cocooning, eating stew, snuggling and sleeping…

‘Why are we being told this is the time to buy a gym membership?’
