Ione Skye recalled not approving how Gwyneth Paltrow treated her brother, Donovan Leitch, during their relationship in her new memoir.
While reflecting on taking a trip to Mexico with the former couple following the Northridge Earthquake in 1994, Skye, 54, revealed that she was taken aback by how snappy Paltrow was toward her sibling, who was feeling under the weather.
‘Vacationing with Dono and his intimidating new girlfriend (yes, that Gwyneth) did not exactly sound relaxing, but anything was more relaxing than living in fear of the next earthquake,’ she wrote in Say Everything.
At the time, Paltrow, who went on to win an Academy Awards just five years later, had just kicked off her acting career with films like Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle.
Despite her brother spending most of their vacation sick in bed, Skye noted that the Shakespeare in Love actress did not seem particularly sympathetic about him feeling under the weather.
‘At breakfast, Dono had distractedly tipped his water glass (he was one of the world’s most distracted people). A few drops had splashed Gwyneth, and she’d snapped, “Idiot.” With a laugh, but still,’ she wrote.

The moment bothered Skye enough to ask Leitch, when Paltrow wasn’t around, if ‘Gwyneth [was] always mean to you like that.’
Skye said her brother laughed off the question and was simply ‘smitten’ with their romance while it lasted.
‘He was 27 and looking toward the future, to marriage and kids. Gwyneth was only 21 and wasn’t ready for anything too serious,’ she explained. ‘Well, at least not yet.’
Six months later, however, Skye said Paltrow landed a part in the film, Se7en, where she met Brad Pitt, who she went on to date from 1994 to 1997.
Paltrow and Pitt, 61, were even briefly engaged for six months, before calling it quits.
Paltrow previously revealed that her father, Bruce Paltrow, who died in 2002, warned her she was turning into a bit of a brat following her Oscar win at age 26.
‘I think, my philosophy is that fame is actually not very good for us as people,’ she said on The Graham Norton Show in 2019.
She continued: ‘And, I think, friction is actually what makes you grow. And so, all of a sudden, I was this pretty young woman and everybody was removing my obstacles…and I think incrementally I started just behaving strangely or a little weird.’

She continued: ‘And my father…he sat me down one day and he said, in his inimitable Brooklyn way, “You’re kind of turning into an a**hole.”
Gwyneth credited that conversation with being ‘incredibly important in my life’ because it ‘really burst a bubble’ and brought her back to reality.
In 2016, three years after being dubbed the ‘Most Hated Celebrity’ in Hollywood, Paltrow shared her reaction to the cruel title while appearing on BBC News’ Hard Talk.
‘More than, like, Chris Brown? What did I do?’ she asked.
Despite polarizing audiences, she explained she knows that all she can do is be her ‘authentic self.’

‘But I think there are things about me that make people draw conclusions. For example, there is the perception that I grew up very wealthy and that I was given, you know … That I was sort of raised with a silver spoon in my mouth, which inspires a lot of resentment,’ she noted.
Paltrow went on to reveal after graduating from Spence School in Manhattan, her dad told her: ‘You are completely on your own… so he never gave me anything.’
‘I never had any supplementation, he never helped me with my rent, I never had a trust fund. So the idea that I am spoiled or that I didn’t work for what I have, that’s just not accurate. But I can see how somebody might have that perception,’ she stated.
Paltrow also shut down the widely believed rumors that all she eats is ‘seaweed’ and ‘a bit of air.’
‘I have never had a horrible experience with French fries. French fries are my life!’ she mused.
