After a hard-fought Oscars campaign in which he boasted about his ‘top-level’ acting, Timothee Chalamet’s loss Sunday night doubtless stung.

Indeed, it was Michael B Jordan who took home the Best Actor accolade for his turn in Sinners. And despite nine nominations, Marty Supreme did not take home a single gold statuette, its titular star leaving the ceremony empty-handed.

And adding salt to the wound was the barrage of jokes taking aim at Chalamet, 30, for his comment that ‘no one cares about’ ballet or opera. And, as if the jibes weren’t enough, ballerina Misty Copeland – who previously criticized the actor’s remarks – took the stage during a performance of I Lied to You, from the Sinners soundtrack.

It was, one source told the Daily Mail, a ‘weird room to be in’ that evening, with the buzz of excitement around the young actor fizzling out after his devastating loss.

‘During commercials, he was going up to people to talk, people were coming up to him, everyone was taking pictures,’ the insider said of Chalamet.

That changed, however, when the show resumed. ‘Then when the show came back on, Conan was joking about him and then he didn’t win, so it is weird to go up to someone that lost, because what do you end up talking about? The whole night was awkward.’

One source told the Daily Mail that the evening was ‘awkward’ after Chalamet’s loss

And, the Daily Mail has learned, his humiliation haunted him beyond the Dolby Theater.

Chalamet, along with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, 28, ‘rallied’ and went to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, a second source said, despite having ‘cameras in their faces the whole time during the Oscar ceremony,’ which the beauty mogul found ‘uncomfortable.’

There, Kris Jenner was seen engrossed in conversation with the Marty Supreme star in what the insider could only assume was to console him.

‘I am sure she put the loss in perspective, which is what she does, she chills people out,’ the source said. ‘I am sure she told him he is super young and he will get his Oscar later.’

Adding insult to injury, according to a third source, appeared to be rapper Travis Scott, Kylie’s ex-boyfriend and father of her two children, Stormi, eight, and Aire, four. Scott, 34, posted a photo on his Instagram Story of Jordan crying as he accepted his award on stage at Academy Awards.

‘That definitely felt like a jab at Timothee,’ the insider said. ‘Some saw this as Travis’ way of sending a message on who he thinks is cool and who isn’t.’

Then, Chalamet was faced with a potential awkward run-in with Scott as they arrived at the Vanity Fair party.

‘The men are cordial enough because Travis has to keep the peace with anyone who is in his kids’ life,’ the insider added. ‘They are respectful enough to each other for the sake of the kids, but Travis wouldn’t hang out with someone like Timothee if Kylie wasn’t dating him.’

After all, it wouldn’t be the first dig Scott has made about Chalamet, having seemingly referenced the actor’s leading role in the Wonka movie in his 2023 hit Meltdown: ‘Chocolate AP and chocolate the Vs got the/ Willy Wonka factory (Vs)/ Burn a athlete like it’s calories find another flame/ hot as me, b***h.’

But in the wake of his loss, according to our first source, Chalamet is ‘happy that it’s all over.’

Chalamet spent seven years learning to master the art of table tennis and would even temporarily impair his vision ahead of playing Marty Mauser in the Josh Safdie directed drama which is loosely based on the life of legendary table tennis champion Marty Reisman in 1940s New York.

The star, who also lost out on the Best Actor Oscar in 2025 for his turn as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, was aggressive in his vision of how to promote the movie.

He wore orange outfits for months – the color of the ping pong balls – and accessorized with designer bags in the shape of paddles, released merch, launched a bright orange blimp over multiple cities, went viral with a staged ‘marketing meeting’ on Zoom and organized a town hall with Matthew McConaughey for Austin college students.

He even ramped up the PDA with Kylie, with the pair complementing each other in orange at the premiere of Marty Supreme back in December. He later gave a shout out to the reality star as he picked up the Best Actor gong at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

‘Thank you to my partner of three years,’ he told the celebrity-packed crowd in February. ‘Thank you for our foundation. I love you. I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.’

This, according to our first source, was all part of the plan to make him more ‘relatable.’

‘Part of the reason for amping up the PDA is because they want to kill the talk of their relationship being fake and/or broken. But also, Timothee was on a campaign to win an Oscar,’ the insider told the Daily Mail.

‘Just as much as it is about an actor’s performance, you’re also selling yourself to the voters and the world. If he can show a little piece of himself and be relatable, especially through a relationship, it pays off. It’s all a part of the game.’

Despite the film grossing $179 million since its release on December 26, gaining a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, being nominated for more than 100 awards, and Chalamet’s portrayal being described as ‘career defining’ – it failed to woo the Academy’s voters.

‘He would have loved to have won, so he’s going to take this time to lay low,’ our first source said. ‘He doesn’t want to be seen in this controversial light, so he is hoping out of sight, out of mind.’

The source added, ‘He is going to enjoy the next few days away from it all to decompress. He’s learning from it all right now.’

When he ultimately returns to the big screen, they continued, ‘it will be a fresh start.’

‘He refuses to get knocked down from the last few months,’ the insider said. ‘This is a big test for his psyche, career, relationship, and if he gets through it, he knows he will be better off because of it.’

Kylie, for her part, ‘feels bad for him,’ according to our second source, who insisted the pair are still ‘solid.’

‘Kylie feels bad for Timothee because she feels like he was sabotaged, like the press pushed him down, after he worked so hard on the film,’ the insider said, though they noted that his loss is ‘not humiliating for her at all.’

But perhaps more concerning for the actor is how the fallout could mark the end of his relationship with Kylie, according to our first source, who told the Daily Mail that how he handles the loss and the next steps in his career will be a real ‘test.’

‘There hasn’t been anything too problematic with them, but like anything else, let’s see what happens now Timothee has lost the Oscar and will go back on set,’ the insider said. ‘That will be the next test for their relationship to see if it carries on or they split.’
