Jessie Cave finds it “embarrassing” she felt forced into joining OnlyFans to pay her bills.
The former Harry Potter actress and mother-of-four, 39, joined the adult site after struggling with debt, childcare costs and finding enough conventional acting work to support her family.
Jessie, who played Lavender Brown in the final three Harry Potter films, discussed her unconventional career move after she launched a non-explicit OnlyFans account in 2025 centred on videos of her long hair, and has since said she earned more through the platform in one year than throughout her acting career.
Addressing the assumption appearing in the blockbuster Harry Potter franchise had left her wealthy, Jessie told ITV’s This Morning show: “People just assume I’m rich and I have loads of money — and no, I don’t.”
She added about playing Lavender it was “a smallish part” and “20 years ago”.
Discussing her decision to use OnlyFans, Jessie said: “It was embarrassing because on a certain level I would have really liked to get a job, but you know what it’s like.”
She added: “It costs so much for childcare.”
Jessie explained her financial circumstances had reached a point where she needed to find another way to make money while continuing her creative work.
She added she was a “struggling artist basically”.
But Jessie stressed the experience had subsequently helped her financially and personally.
Jessie added OnlyFans “really has saved me”.
The actress has described the material she produces as “hair content”.
Her page does not contain nudity or sexual content and instead focuses on videos involving her hair, including brushing and plaiting it.
Jessie previously explained her objectives when announcing the account, writing: “My aim? To get the house safe, cover the arsenic/lead wallpaper, build a new roof etc.”
She continued: “My aim? To get out of debt. My aim? To empower myself? To prove to those in the past who have misjudged me that I’m not so sweet? To put time into something I never invested in before: self-love.”
Jessie first appeared as Lavender in 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, playing the Hogwarts student who becomes romantically involved with Ron Weasley, played by Rupert Grint.
She returned in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 and Part 2.
Her other acting credits include Great Expectations, Black Mirror and HBO’s Industry, while she has increasingly concentrated on comedy, theatre and her one-woman performances.
Her OnlyFans career has also affected her relationship with the Harry Potter convention circuit.
Jessie previously revealed she had been barred from one fan convention because organisers said “OnlyFans is affiliated with porn”.
Jessie responded: “(It’s) baffling to me as some actors who do conventions (most actors, actually) have done TV and films in which they’ve done sex scenes and nudity. I’m just playing with my hair!”
She added: “I am not upset about the prospect of no more Harry Potter conventions. There’s going to be a new cast now and it’s a different time. Plus, I have done conventions for over 15 years and have enough photos and wizard memorabilia.”
The Harry Potter franchise is itself entering a new era through HBO’s television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, with Dominic McLaughlin taking over the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton playing Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout portraying Ron Weasley.
The series is currently in production and is expected to premiere in 2027.
