Come January 17th, and The Roshans will start streaming on Netflix. The documentary traces 75 years of the Roshan family and highlights their contribution to Indian cinema. Starting from Roshan Lal Nagrath (Hrithik Roshan’s grandfather) and a celebrated musician to Rakesh Roshan (actor turned director, producer), Rajesh Roshan (music director) and Hrithik (actor, entrepreneur). The four-part documentary reveals all about the life and journey of the three generations of Roshans, and their various struggles and challenges that they had to overcome at every step.
While there are many intriguing aspects about their journey that the documentary will reveal, one that especially caught our attention is about Hrithik Roshan becoming an actor and turning into a phenomenon with his 2000 debut film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The actor marks 25 years in the industry and the documentary reveals that his visionary father, Rakesh Roshan, didn’t think that Hrithik can become an actor, let alone become a star.
In the trailer of the Netflix documentary The Roshans, Rakesh Roshan says that he wasn’t convinced about Hrithik. While he has acted a a child actor and also worked as an assisted director with his father in films like Koyla and Karan Arjun, the filmmaker didn’t think his lad had it in him to act. “Mooh kholta nahin nahi hai… peeche baitha rehta hai…,” he reasoned. And yet, when he did come on screen, he achieved the unimaginable. A success and fan following that people spend years achieving. Over the years, he has only proved that he wasn’t a one-time wonder but one of the best performers in recent times.
