Diners in Singapore have had to bid goodbye to multiple eateries this year amidst numerous F&B closures.
And House Downstairs will soon join this list.
The homegrown cafe will be closing on Nov 3, co-owner and local DJ Chen Ning announced in an Instagram post on Wednesday (Aug 26).
According to her, the business closure is due to the expiration of its lease at Ulu Pandan Community Club.
“We wish we could have more time but some things are beyond our control,” Chen Ning wrote, calling the cafe her “second home”.
“Goodbyes are always tough, especially when each and everyone of you has made our space more than just a space.”
“A new lease of life awaits but for now, [it’s] business as usual till Nov 3,” she added.

House Downstairs opened at Ulu Pandan CC in 2021, serving a mixture of Asian and brunch fare such as laksa goreng, craygee (crayfish paofan), and avocado toast.
It is owned by Chen Ning and her friend Chong Yanjing, who was formerly a barista at now-defunct cafe Strangers’ Reunion.
In a 2023 interview with 8days, Chen Ning shared that she and Yanjing had often discussed opening a cafe together due to their love for coffee.
They made it happen when the the latter quit her job at Strangers’ Reunion.
Chen Ning was the brains behind House Downstairs’ menu, which features a combination of dishes that she likes to eat. She also ran the cafe’s kitchen on weekends.
