Hollywood began the new year by learning tragic news. Beloved makeup artist Jasen Kaplan has died, Page Six is told.
Kaplan began his rise to the top of his profession when he worked with Brittny and Lisa Gastineau on their 2005 show “Gastineau Girls.”
He went on to become one of the most trusted and adored artists in the business, and for decades he was the go-to for stars including Kelly Osbourne, Eva Longoria, Lynda Carter and Cyndi Lauper.
We’re told he was especially close with Bethenny Frankel, Tinsley Mortimer, Lydia Hearst and Obsourne.
Sources say he passed away in a hospital in New York City in the hours before the ball dropped in Times Square.
“He was a great artist, and a sweet guy,” said a longtime friend, “When people started working with him, they often stayed with him for years.”
Insiders say his many adoring clients were learning news on Thursday morning, and that the loss will be felt across the entertainment industry.
“He really was important to a lot of people,” said one, “some of his clients had been with him more than 20 years. They’re going to take it very hard.”
One noted that it will be a blow to Osbourne who so recently suffered the loss of her father.
He was a beloved uncle and called his dog Coco the “love of his life.”
The NYPD told us Thursday that they’re investigating the death of a 46-year-old man at Kaplan’s Hell’s Kitchen apartment building and that the chief medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Kaplan was also a contestant on “Finding Prince Charming,” a gay, “Bachelor”-style dating show produced by Lance Bass for Logo in 2016.
