Veteran singer Asha Bhosle lost her calm on Himesh Reshammiya’s past comment about RD Burman’s singing style. Himesh’s remark grabbed a lot of attention in the music industry. In a recent interview, the singer and music director walked down the lane and admitted that Asha was justified in her reaction.
This controversy happened in the early days of Himesh’s singing career when his distinct vocal style became the topic of discussion. Netizens found his style and voice unique, while others slammed him for being too nasal. Himesh tried hard to defend himself as he drew comparisons to legendary composer and singer RD Burman. He said during an interview with Radio Nasha, “While defending my voice, I said that RD Burman would also sing nasally”. His statement did not sit well with Asha Bhosle who worked with Burman. She even said that Himesh should be slapped for saying such a remark.
He even acknowledged his mistake and Himesh said, “I shouldn’t have said that. I should have just admitted, ‘Yes, this is nasal,’ and the whole topic would have ended”. He even revealed that he had apologised to Asha for his comment. He continued saying, “We were performing live shows. Everybody was loving the songs, but some people had a point of view that I sing nasally. Today, because I am so successful, I can say yes, this is nasal, and nobody will mind that.” He concluded by saying, “But when my first 5-6 songs released, which were hits, some criticised them, calling it nasal. To counter them, I was trying to say that it is high-pitched; I defended my high-pitch voice, which they were calling nasal.”
