Hilary Duff reunited onstage with her ex-boyfriend, Joel Madden, for a surprise performance at her sold-out “The Lucky Me” World Tour stop in New York City — two decades after they broke up.
The “So Yesterday” songstress sent fans into a frenzy after she changed into a Good Charlotte T-shirt midway through her performance at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night right before bringing out her special guests.
“New York, you know I would never come here and not have a surprise for you,” she told the audience, as they erupted in cheers.
“I brought two of my dearest friends to New York City tonight,” Duff, 38, continued. “Talk about some day oners.”
“Can you please give the warmest welcome to my friends, Good Charlotte?” the pop star said, as Joel and his identical twin brother, Benji Madden, walked onto the stage.
The Disney alum and Joel, 47, went on to sing the latter’s 2002 track, “The Anthem,” as Benji, also 47, played guitar.
The exes even posed together backstage with their spouses, with Duff smiling alongside her husband,
Matthew Koma, and Joel with his wife, Nicole Richie.
“Family night @MSG,” Benji, who was also photographed, captioned the snap.
Benji’s wife, actress Cameron Diaz, with whom he shares three children, wasn’t pictured.
Duff and Koma, who wed in 2019, were also joined by their kids — Banks, 7, Mae, 5, and Townes, 2 — as well as Duff’s son Luca, 14, whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie. However, they weren’t photographed.
It’s unclear whether Joel and Richie’s two kids — Kate, 18, and Sparrow, 16 — were in attendance.
Duff and Joel, meanwhile, started dating in 2004 while they were 16 and 25, respectively. They parted ways in 2006 but have remained on amicable terms since marrying separate people.
This isn’t the first time Duff and Koma have met up with Joel and Richie, who tied the knot in 2010.
In fact, the group stepped out together for a night at Scratch Bar & Kitchen in Los Angeles in 2022.
A photo shared via Instagram showed them posing for a group photo alongside two other couples.
Duff, meanwhile, previously opened up about her romance with Joel during a 2016 episode of “The Love Bomb” podcast, referring to it as “so all-encompassing” and “so intense.”
