Veteran actor Dharmendra’s demise created a shockwave in the industry and for his family. After battling health issues for around two weeks, he passed away at the age of 89 on November 29. After his death, Dharmendra’s family has organised three prayer meets until now, one from the Deols and two from Hema Malini’s side. Recently, Malini organised a prayer meet for the actor in her constituency, Mathura. Several politicians, spiritual leaders and film directors like Anil Sharma. However, her daughters, Ahana and Esha Deol, were absent at the Mathura prayer meet. The veteran actress got emotional as she never thought of organising a prayer meet for her husband and that too without her daughters.
Hema Malni breaks down in tears
As quoted by PTI, Hema Malini could not stop her tears while she spoke about her life partner. While addressing the gathering, the actress said, “I never imagined that I would have to organise a prayer meeting for my beloved Dharm ji. It was an inconsolable shock.” She also talked about their long journey together and added, “We shared an association of 57 years and worked together in 45 films, more than 25 of which were super hits. I still feel surprised and happy that my onscreen love became my life partner in real life. Since our love was true, we faced challenges together and got married.”
Hema Malini called Dharmendra a ‘loving husband’, devoted father to daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. She also mentioned that he was an affectionate grandfather of five grandchildren. Hema said Dharmendra’s warmth extended far beyond the screen. Esha and Ahana Deol were absent from the prayer meet held in Mathura due to personal reasons.
The veteran actress also shared a tribute video of Dharmendra on Instagram that highlights his extraordinary career and personal journey. While sharing the post, she captioned, “Special tribute to Dharam ji, highlighting his evergreen appeal, his charisma, his immense talent and his tremendous, impactful presence in all his movies. This visual trbute was made for the two prayer meetings that I had arranged in Delhi and Mathura ? #tribute.”
Filmmaker Anil Sharma, who hails from Mathura, said that he is still unable to process that Dharmendra is no more. Adding a lighter note to the emotional moment, Hema Malini’s representative, Janardan Sharma, recalled Dharmendra’s humour in the 2014 campaign. Sharma said, “He once joked, ‘Agar Hema ko vote nahi diya to main pani ki tanki pe chadh jaunga.”
The prayer meet featured two documentaries- one curated by Anil Sharma and another showcasing Dharmendra’s Urdu poetry, followed by a bhajan evening that added a spiritual note to the remembrance.
