Netflix is reportedly in talks to offer Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a fresh contract once their current £77 million (approximately €90 million) deal comes to an end this year.
At the centre of the new proposal is a documentary to mark the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, expected to air in 2027.
Prince Harry to Front Princess Diana Anniversary Series
Sources close to the production say the series would be a solo project for Harry, where he would serve as host, narrator, and co-executive producer. The documentary is intended to tell the story of his late mother, Princess Diana, while reflecting on her global impact as a humanitarian and cultural icon.
“Harry is uniquely placed to share intimate insights about Diana as both her son and as someone who has lived through her legacy,” a source explained. Insiders say that while nothing has been finalised, Netflix executives are “very optimistic” about moving forward.
Interestingly, some close to the Prince believe this project could be a chance to mend strained ties with Prince William and other members of the royal family.
Netflix keen to extend Harry and Meghan partnership
The Sussexes’ original multi-year Netflix agreement, worth £77.2 million, was signed in 2020 and is due to expire later this year. The potential Diana documentary could serve as the launchpad for a renewed contract between the couple and the streaming platform.
Netflix is reportedly eager to retain Harry and Meghan, who have been regarded as valuable assets by the company. Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO, previously called them “the jewels in our crown.”
Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show divides viewers
Earlier this spring, Meghan Markle released With Love, Meghan, a lifestyle and cookery series under the couple’s production label. The show quickly climbed to number six on Netflix’s top 10 list in both the UK and US, drawing plenty of attention.
While some critics gave the series a frosty reception, fans praised Meghan’s warm and personal approach to recipes and wellness tips. Sarandos defended the show, stating that Netflix is taking a ‘discovery-driven’ approach with Meghan’s content.
For now, all eyes are on the Sussexes as they weigh their next move – and whether this new Diana project could be the key to both a renewed Netflix deal and family reconciliation.
