The family of Jesus Guerrero revealed new health details following the celebrity hairstylist’s mysterious death in February.
“He was diagnosed with gastritis months back, but it was never anything to get that bad,” his sister, Gris Guerrero, told Us Weekly Monday. “So we don’t know if that was a part of it.”
Gastritis is medical condition defined by “inflammation of the lining of the stomach,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
The inflammation is “most often the result of infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers or the regular use of certain pain relievers.”
Gris told the outlet that “from the paperwork” she’s seen, it appears her brother’s medical condition had progressively gotten worse.
She confirmed the stylist — who famously worked with Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez — lost 20 pounds prior to his death.
The family was also aware “that he couldn’t eat without it being painful” in the days before his passing.
“We think it could have been something with his stomach,” Gris said.
Still, confusion remains surrounding the circumstances of Jesus’ sudden death at age 34.
“We have so many questions and a lot doesn’t make sense,” Gris said.
In the days leading up to his death, the beautician had been working with J.Lo in the UAE.
Upon his return to the US, he was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles, where he lived, on Feb. 21. He died the next day.
While sources claimed the hairstylist had complained of chills and hot flashes, Gris said her brother had not been diagnosed with pneumonia, to her knowledge.
However, Jesus kept his health challenges private from even his closest friends, including the Kylie Cosmetics founder.
“He didn’t tell a lot of people,” Gris told Us Weekly. “People who saw him said, ‘You need to get rest and help,’ and he seemed to believe he could push through it and get better and unfortunately that wasn’t the case.”
Jesus’ funeral took place in a Houston on Sunday. The hairstylist’s family and some of his celebrity clients were in attendance.
“Kylie and J.Lo lovingly showed up to pay their respects,” Gris said. “Kylie was with us when we laid him to rest for the burial.”
She also said Katy Perry “generously helped with making sure [they] could have security to keep [their] grieving private.”
