Reports of the death of Deborah Vance were greatly exaggerated — and make for a good way to open the trailer for the final season of Hacks.

HBO Max has set an April 9 premiere date for the fifth and last season of the Emmy-winning comedy, and released a trailer to tee up the season. It begins with Deborah (Jean Smart) returning to her Las Vegas home after the season four finale, which included an obituary for her being mistakenly published. As she pulls up to her gate, she confronts a small group of fans mourning her. Watch the trailer below.

The final season of Hacks will follow Deborah and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) as they are “more determined than ever to secure Deborah’s legacy as a comedian,” the show’s logline reads. The trailer suggests that won’t be easy, as Deborah is still under a non-compete clause after leaving her late night show. “I have been told that I cannot so much as perform one single joke, or I will go to jail,” she says.

The April 9 premiere date for Hacks will get 10-episode final season just under the wire for Emmy eligibility — with a bit of creative scheduling. Two episodes each will debut on April 30 and May 7, with single episodes in the other weeks leading up to a May 28 series finale.

Along with Emmy winners Smart and Einbinder, series regulars Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato and Rose Abdoo will reprise their roles in the final season. The cast also includes guest stars Robby Hoffman, Tony Goldwyn, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Jane Adams, Lauren Weedman, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Luenell, Angela E. Gibbs, Caitlin Reilly and Christopher Briney.

Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky created Hacks. Downs and Aniello executive produce (via their Paulilu banner) with Statsky (via First Thought Productions) Michael Schur of Fremulon, David Miner of 3 Arts Entertainment, Morgan Sackett, Joe Mande, Aisha Muharrar, Nate Young and Ashley Glazier. Universal Television is the studio.
