Gwyneth Paltrow made a rare comment about her former boyfriend Ben Affleck during Tuesday’s episode of Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast.
The 53-year-old actress brought up her ex, whom she chose not to name-drop, when Amy Poehler asked her about her friendship with the late actor Robin Williams.
“I only got to know him a bit when ‘Good Will Hunting’ came out [in 1997] because I was dating one of the people who wrote that movie and was in that movie,” she said, referring to Affleck, now also 53.
“We’re well aware,” Poehler quipped, adding that Affleck was “so good in that movie,” which Paltrow agreed with.
“I love that movie. It’s a perfect movie. I love it so much,” the Goop founder and CEO — who had actually worked with Williams in 1991 when they both starred in “Hook” — gushed.
Affleck and Paltrow began dating in 1997, shortly after her split from Brad Pitt.
The “Marty Supreme” actress and Affleck went on to co-star in the 1998 movie “Shakespeare in Love” and “Bounce” in 2000 — before ultimately calling it quits that year.
Author Amy Odell recently gave further insight into Paltrow’s tumultuous relationship with Affleck in “Gwyneth: The Biography.“
“Affleck was struggling with alcoholism and a gambling habit around the time he met Gwyneth. Her friends had reservations about him because he didn’t always reciprocate her affection. He at times seemed more interested in playing video games with the guys at his house than being with Gwyneth,” Odell claimed in July 2025.
Diving into their rocky relationship, “her friends felt like he did not appreciate her,” adding that while Paltrow would make dinner, Affleck preferred to “go out with the guys.”
She “would compare him to [the guys in] ‘Entourage,’” Odell alleged.
Odell also claimed that the Academy Award winner wasn’t shy about discussing their sex life as she detailed, “She told [makeup artist Kevyn] Aucoin one day that she loved when Affleck [engaged in a certain sex act].”
Gwyneth also revealed some steamy details about their sex life in a 2023 appearance on “Call Her Daddy” when she dubbed Affleck “technically excellent” in bed.
Three years after her split from Affleck, Paltrow met Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, with whom she shares daughter Apple, 21, and son Moses, 19.
The two split in 2016, and she married TV writer and director Brad Falchuk two years later.
As for Affleck, he was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018, and to Jennifer Lopez from 2022 to 2025.
