Guy Ritchie‘s re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes has its first teaser trailer.
Prime Video’s upcoming Young Sherlock stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin (After) as a youthful Holmes enrolled at the University of Oxford in 1870.
Ritchie both directs the first two episodes and executive produces the series. He previously found a fresh take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s great detective with his 2009’s Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr., and a subsequent sequel.
The eight-episode series is billed as an origin story for the character. From the official description: “Sherlock Holmes is a disgraced young man – raw and unfiltered – when he finds himself wrapped up in a murder case that threatens his liberty. His first ever case unravels a globe-trotting conspiracy that changes his life forever. Unfolding in 1870s Oxford and adventuring abroad, the series will expose the early antics of the anarchic adolescent who is yet to evolve into Baker Street’s most renowned resident.”
Along with Dracula, Sherlock Holmes is probably the most screen-adapted literary character of all time. Barry Levinson previously directed a Young Sherlock Holmes movie in 1985.
The rest of the Young Sherlock cast includes Dónal Finn (The Wheel of Time), Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Natascha McElhone (Halo), Max Irons (Condor) and Colin Firth (The King’s Speech).
The series is created for television and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill with executive producers Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton and Colin Wilson.
Young Sherlock premieres March 4, 2026.
