Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the ‘most important’ lesson he has insisted on teaching his children – and it doesn’t involve a kitchen.
The TV star, 59, shares six children with his wife Tana, 51, and he has made it clear that he wants to raise grounded, polite children, despite his millions.
The celebrity chef told Fox News: ‘The one thing I’ve taught them all, brilliantly, are manners.
‘The most important thing in life, but they cost zero.’
Gordon married his wife back in 1996 and they went on to welcome their eldest child, Megan, in 1998.
The duo went on to have a further six children, twins Jack and Holly, 26, Tilly, 24, Oscar, seven, and Jesse James, two.
Gordon Ramsay has opened up about the ‘most important’ lesson he has insisted on teaching his children – and it doesn’t involve a kitchen
In an interview with People in 2023, Gordon revealed that none of his children (so far) have followed in his culinary footsteps.
‘Jack’s a Royal Marine commando, off defending the country in some of the most extreme conditions.
‘Megan’s an incredible police officer. Holly’s gone into fashion. Tilly’s studying at university for her degree. Tana and I came from a family with no degrees.’
The dad explained that despite being worth millions himself, he and his wife, Tana, have made the executive decision not to spoil their children.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, as of 2026, Gordon has an estimated fortune of $220 million (£162.96 million).
Discussing what he will do with his wealth down the line in 2017, the Hell’s Kitchen star told The Telegraph: ‘It’s definitely not going to them, and that’s not in a mean way, it’s to not spoil them.
‘The only thing I’ve agreed with Tana is that they get a 25% deposit on a flat, but not the whole flat.’
He explained that his children live relatively modest lives, and he has given his daughter Meg a budget of £100 a week for university – although he did not specify whether this was for all her bills or simply socialising.
Gordon added that his other children receive ‘about £50 a week and they have to pay for their own phones and their bus fare.’

The chef said that his children have to work for the money he gives them and it is compensation for the housework they do.
Like us Average Joes, Gordon wants to instil in his children the importance of cleaning up after themselves and generally making their own way in the world.
Gordon also stressed that despite his cooking empire, he is trying to make as much time as possible for his youngest children, Oscar, seven, and Jesse, two.
And by extension, he showed some regret for not being there as much as he would have liked for his older children.
He added: ‘I want to make more time for them because I don’t want them to say, “You missed my first day of school, you missed my play, you missed my football match”.’
