Golden Globes: Exclusive Backstage Photos of Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Thomas Anderson, Jessie Buckley, Miley Cyrus and More Stars

There was something fitting about the fact that the first person to pose inside The Hollywood Reporter’s Golden Globes backstage photo booth was a star from The Studio. The Apple TV+ series — a satirical take on the inner workings of the industry — once used the telecast as backdrop for an episode that saw Seth Rogen’s Matt Remick take the stage and accept a Golden Globe trophy from Adam Scott as himself and Ike Barinholtz nearly stealing the scene as Sal Saperstein. Rogen and the Studio team triumphed Sunday for best comedy series and, in a coincidental twist of fate, they received their trophy from Scott. Only in Hollywood, right?

Chase Sui Wonders was onto something when we asked her, as the first in a parade of stars to be photographed by lensman Guy Aroch, to sum up the experience of being on the scene of the town’s biggest party. The actress, clad in custom Balenciaga and Tiffany & Co. jewelry, wasted not a second: “We Globes’n, as Sal Saperstein said!”

All of Hollywood was “Globes’n” Sunday night but only a select few arrived backstage with shiny new accessories, some more shocked than others. “It’s heavy,” said best actress winner Rose Byrne while holding a Globe for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, directed by Mary Bronstein. The filmmaker, floored by her star’s win, revealed of the experience, “It’s absolutely out of body.” Sentimental Value star Stellan Skarsgård remained in his. “Not much has changed,” he said with the same deadpan delivery he displayed onstage when he called himself “too old” to win.

More complimentary language was flowing as the winning team from Netflix’s Adolescence congratulated the artists from the streamer’s KPop Demon Hunters on their best original song win for the aptly named “Golden.” Adolescence’s winning star and co-creator Stephen Graham made sure to take a moment to spread the love to One Battle After Another star Chase Infiniti by saying, “You were magnificent.” Her director, Paul Thomas Anderson, emerged as a triple winner for best screenplay, director and best film (musical or comedy). He was feeling the love, too, as he posed for a few Aroch shots and selected a neon pink heart as his preferred backdrop. Graham had other words to share during his portrait session including “I’m really sorry” after he mistakenly smashed a blue-hued lightning rod used as one of THR’s photo shoot backdrops after bumping it with his Golden Globe. “You shouldn’t have had me back in here,” he said with a wink.

Once Chloe Zhao arrived to the space with her Hamnet team (including winner Jessie Buckley and co-stars Paul Mescal, Joe Alwyn and mesmerizing brothers Jacobi and Noah Jupe), she relayed her emotional state to THR after seeming stunned during the telecast. “I’m happy and I can’t wait to watch back my face and my reaction.”

Speaking of faces, best actor winner Wagner Moura could only recall one from his walk from the table to the stage. “I don’t really remember the walk from the table to the stage except seeing Julia Roberts’ face. But then I went up there and I could see everybody. It just feels great, man,” he said. “The attention that this Brazilian film is receiving is beautiful. I was nominated a couple of years ago for Narcos, and it was great, but this feels different. If you could see all the Brazilians celebrating now in Brazil.
