Eddie Jordan, the charismatic former Formula One team boss and TV personality, has passed away at the age of 76, his family has confirmed.
Eddie Jordan’s legacy: F1 pioneer and beloved TV personality
Jordan, the Irish entrepreneur who became one of the sport’s most recognisable faces, died peacefully in Cape Town surrounded by family on 20 March 2025, following a year-long battle with aggressive prostate cancer.
“EJ brought so much charisma, energy, and Irish charm to everything he did,” his family said in a statement. “He leaves behind a huge gap in our lives, but also countless memories that will keep us smiling.”
Jordan’s self-named team competed in 250 races between 1991 and 2005, famously giving Michael Schumacher his F1 debut and achieving a career-highlight one-two finish at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix.
Formula one mourns Eddie Jordan: Tributes to an F1 legend
F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali paid tribute from Shanghai ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, describing Jordan as “genuine, brilliant and full of infectious energy”.
Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, recalled meeting Jordan back in 1991. “Formula One has lost a legend,” he said. “Eddie was always full of wit and Irish charm. I’ll never forget his advice to me as a young driver: ‘Get a good sponsor … welcome to the Piranha Club!’”
Jordan stepped away from team ownership in 2005 but remained a fixture in motorsport, becoming a popular pundit with the BBC, later moving to Channel 4, and even making an appearance on Top Gear.
Eddie Jordan’s business success and final message to fans
More recently, Jordan had been involved in business ventures including leading the consortium that bought London Irish rugby club and facilitating Adrian Newey’s high-profile switch from Red Bull to Aston Martin.
Speaking candidly on his podcast last year, Jordan urged listeners to take care of their health, saying: “Don’t waste time. Go and get tested. Look after your body, guys.”
Eddie Jordan’s bold spirit, humour, and passion for motorsport have left an indelible mark on Formula One and beyond.
