The 2025 Critics Choice Awards will go on despite multiple postponements due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires.
The annual awards show was initially set to take place on January 12, but was pushed to January 26 after Santa Ana winds caused multiple fires to spread across the greater L.A. area. The fires destroyed businesses, schools and homes, forcing thousands to evacuate the region and claiming at least 25 lives.
Deadline later reported that the ceremony was postponed a second time until February, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.
Several celebrities were impacted by the fires, including Adam Brody, who scored a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. The show earned a total of four nods, including Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Kristen Bell. (Brody, 45, and his wife, Leighton Meester, reportedly lost their home in the fires.)
While Shōgun leads the pack of TV nominations with six, Conclave and Wicked tied for the most film nominations with a total of 11, followed by Dune: Part Two and Emilia Pérez with 10 each.

Who Is Hosting the 2025 Critics Choice Awards?
Chelsea Handler will return to host the Critics Choice Awards for a third consecutive year. “Returning for the third year to host the Critics Choice Awards has been made even sweeter knowing it will now air on E!,” Handler, whose talk show Chelsea Lately previously aired on the network, said in an October 2024 statement, per Variety. “I feel like I’m returning to my birthplace.”
What Films Are Nominated for 2025 Critics Choice Awards?
Several of the year’s top film nominations included acting nods for its stars, such as Best Actor for Conclave’s Ralph Fiennes, Best Actress for Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo and Best Actress for Emilia Pérez’s Karla Sofía Gascón.

Shōgun is up for Best Drama Series alongside The Day of the Jackal, The Diplomat, Evil, Industry, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, The Old Man and Slow Horses. Meanwhile, shows Abbott Elementary, English Teacher, Hacks, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Somebody Somewhere, St. Denis Medical and What We Do in the Shadows are all up for Best Comedy Series.

How Are the Critics Choice Awards Different From Other Award Shows?
Similar to the Oscars — which is based on votes from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science — the Critics Choice Awards are voted on by their own governing body, the Critics Choice Association (CCA). While the Golden Globes are also voted on by entertainment journalists, the CCA is specific to the Critics Choice Awards.
