While many of us might not worry about our next meal, some Singaporeans struggle to put food on the table daily.
A group of hawkers, however, are determined to help address this issue by ensuring that those in need do not go hungry.
They are taking part in the Community Meals Project — an initiative by fundraising platform Give.Asia which aims to raise $1m for participating hawker stalls and non-profit organisations to provide warm meals to people who are unable to afford them.
As of Tuesday (Sept 8), the campaign has raised a total of over $337,000 from more than 7,200 donors. This amount can provide over 100,000 meals, according to Give.Asia.
“Everyone deserves to eat,” a July update on the campaign page said.
According to the campaign page, donations received in the month of May were used to provide a total of 13,900 free meals at hawker stalls and nonprofit organisations islandwide.
Some hawker stalls taking part in this initiative are The $2.50 Shop, Botak Porridge and Ming Fa Fishball Noodles.
Our Tampines Hub, Boon Lay Hawker and Dignity Kitchen are also among hawker centres and food courts participating in the programme.
