Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland has ditched his signature blonde locks.
Previously recognized by his shoulder-length hair, the athlete has gotten a fresh new cut as he enters the next soccer season.
“New Season, New Hair!!” he wrote on YouTube as part of a vlog.
Introducing his latest buzzcut, the soccer star shared, “This beautiful blonde hair, time to let it go.”
“You don’t have to do this,” cautioned his hairstylist, to which he confidently replied, “No, I’m ready.”
While this might seem like an impulse decision, the 26-year-old has actually been contemplating the change for a while. “I was thinking about doing this straight after the World Cup, but I was so busy so I didn’t do it. [The] season starts now, so it’s time to get a fresh start and everything,” he shared.
In the vlog, he took viewers along for the chop chop, FaceTiming friends and teammates with his new look.
“You gonna be faster now, or what?” asked Zlatan Ibrahimovic after joking that he must have “lost a bet.”
Spanish football manager Josep “Pep” Guardiola who is famously bald, laughed that his choice was a questionable one: “You’re lucky to have hair. I would love to have it!” he responded.
His girlfriend, Isabel Haugseng Johansen, 22, was also in the room for the hair transformation, sharing, “I think I will cry,” adding, “Oh my god,” when she held the loose hair in her hands.
Haaland had previously teased the look on X in a 10-second video, sitting in a chair with his long hair as the camera panned into his outstretched hand, revealing the new ‘do when the video panned back out again,
Though many an athlete sports a buzz cut, especially during the heat of high summer, it was most jarring as the soccer player is largely recognized by his flowing light-catching hair.
Now that his hair is gone, he’s going to have to lean into his other signature: his Birkin bag collection.
Who knows, he could now use them to tote around a long blonde wig … for those days he’s missing his more recognizable look.
