Tesla CEO and owner of X Elon Musk has made headlines with his comments on immigration and crime.
Today, January 5, on X, Musk shared a news story about the number of foreign-born individuals convicted of rape in Catalan prisons, simply writing “Wow” in alongside the post.
According to Catalonia’s Department of Justice and Democratic Quality, of the 29 inmates in Catalan prisons for rape as of January 1, 2025, 75.9 per cent have been convicted, while 24.1 per cent remain in pre-trial detention. Among these, 26 are foreign nationals.
The news story by La Razon also highlighted that foreign nationals are making up 61.79 per cent of the prison population for sexual assault offences in Catalonia, compared to 38.2 per cent for Spanish nationals.
Elon Musk shames Keir Starmer over UK grooming gangs
Musk has also turned his attention to UK politics, heavily criticising Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s handling of grooming gang scandals. Musk alleged that, during Starmer’s tenure as director of public prosecutions (2008–2013), “rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice.” He also shared a post on X by ‘God Save Great Britain’ and said “Starmer must go. He is national embarrassment.”
Musk also accused UK safeguarding minister Jess Phillips of being an “apologist for rape genocide” after she declined requests for a Home Office-led inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham. Instead, Phillips urged local councils to take responsibility, mirroring the Conservative government’s earlier stance on localised investigations.
While some have welcomed Musk’s outspoken critique, others, including Health Secretary Wes Streeting, have dismissed his remarks as “misjudged and misinformed.”
