Ed Sheeran is back. Nearly two years removed from his seventh album, Autumn Variations, the English singer teased a snippet of an upcoming single called “Azizam,” the lead single off his upcoming eighth album.

“Album done. Single soon,” Sheeran wrote in a post on his Instagram, dancing to the song while standing beside producer Ilya Salmanzadeh. Sheeran didn’t provide a release date on the single or the album. “I’m very excited as you can tell.”

“Azizam” has a faster-paced dance beat, with some Persian influence as evidenced from the track’s title. Azizam itself is a Persian term of endearment that means “my dear.”

Sheeran hasn’t released an album since 2023. Four months before dropping Autumn Variations, which hit No. 4 on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart, Sheeran also released (Subtract), the final album in Sheeran’s mathematically themed records, following +, X, ÷ and =. Late last year, Sheeran put out the track “Under the Tree” for the Netflix Christmas movie That Christmas.

“Azizam” comes while Ed Sheeran continues on his years-long Mathematics Tour. So far in 2025, he’s played dates in Bhutan, India and China, and following a brief break since March 2, he’ll play more shows starting in Qatar on April 30. The Mathematics Tour will finally end later this year, after a final leg that will take Sheeran through much of Europe before he wraps up in Düsseldorf on Sept. 7.

“It was time to Stop,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram when he announced the final Mathematics shows last summer. “But then we can press Play.”
