Donald Trump recently received huge flak for commenting on Rob Reiner’s death. Here is what he said.
The world has been mourning the death of director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, who was found dead in their home. Their son Nick has been arrested since the bodies were found. The country as well as the well-wishers across the globe, have been sending out tributes and condolences to the Reiner family. However, US President Donald Trump had a different take on their death and stated that Reiner had a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS’. The president also alleged that Rob Reiner used to drive people crazy with his obsession with him.
What Donald Trump said about Rob Reiner’s death?
Donald Trump tweeted, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
He added, “He was known to have driven people crazy by his raging obsession with President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
These words didn’t sit well the many people on the internet, who basted at him with tone deaf comments. Talk-show host Seth Meyers said on his show, “Rob was no fan of the president, and because of that the president was no fan of Rob. This is something everyone knew, but he still wanted to take the opportunity to go on social media and post his thoughts about this tragedy.”
He also said, “I feared that he was going to do this, and that it was going to cast a shadow on an already dark day. But it was even worse than I could have imagined. He made it about himself, because he is incapable of making it about anyone else. It was reported that the crime might have been committed by a troubled family member, which makes it even more of a tragedy. But if you have an ounce of humanity, and you really need at least that amount.”
Jimmy Kimmel also reacted to Trump’s comments and said, “What we need in a time like this is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our president because he had none of it to give. Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense. Just when you think he can’t get any lower, he finds a way to do it. It’s so hateful and vile, and when my wife showed it to me for the first time, I thought it was fake. I thought, even for him, this is too much, but nothing is too much for him.”
Jimmy Fallon didn’t spoke about Trump’s comments, but he paid a small tribute to Rob. He said, “We’re all very sad to hear about the passing of a friend and entertainment legend, Rob Reiner, and his wife, Michele. He was a frequent guest at the show, and everyone here would line up around the dressing room to say ‘hi’ or tell him something they loved. Everyone felt like they had a personal connection to Rob and his work. He was one of the smartest and most tremendous people that I have ever met. Thank you for being an inspiration to millions of people across the world. In the end, I am going to remember all the laughs that you gave us.”
Rob was known for directing movies like A Few Good Men, When Harry Met Sally, Spinal Tap, and The Princess Bride.
