Popular Chinese restaurant chain Crystal Jade has closed its Hong Kong Kitchen outlet in Great World on Sept 1.
This marks the chain’s third closure of 2026, following the exit of its outlets at Suntec City in July and Hillion Mall earlier in the year.
In 2025, it also shuttered its popular Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao outlet at Holland Village after two decades, citing lease expiration as the reason for closure.
“As part of our ongoing business strategy, we are evaluating opportunities for new outlets in other areas of Singapore,” a spokesperson told AsiaOne then.
A notice dated Sept 2 outside the Great World outlet stated that the unit has since been reclaimed by the mall’s landlord GWC Commercial, reported Lianhe Zaobao.
In response to AsiaOne’s queries on Monday (Sept 14), Crystal Jade said that the latest closure was a commercial decision as part of the group’s ongoing assessment and review of its operations and outlet network.
This was to ensure that the business “remains aligned with evolving market conditions and business priorities”.
As for how the closure would affect its employees, Crystal Jade said: “Our people remain our priority.”
It added that as with previous outlet changes, affected staff were informed directly and supported through the transition with re-deployment opportunities within the group “wherever possible”.
“We are grateful to the customers who have supported this outlet. Singapore remains our home market, and we are committed to maintaining a sustainable presence here.”
Established in 1991, Crystal Jade was first opened in Singapore by Hong Kong restaurateur Alfred Leung.
Over the years, the Chinese restaurant chain expanded substantially — opening over 100 outlets across 25 cities including Singapore, China, South Korea and Vietnam.
With the closure of the Great World restaurant, 15 outlets will remain in Singapore across its six brand concepts, which include: Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, Crystal Jade Go, Crystal Jade Golden Palace, Crystal Jade Pavilion and Crystal Jade Palace.
