A selection of costumes and accessories from The Devil Wears Prada 2 are going under the hammer.

Fashion fans will get the chance to get their hands on items worn in the comedy film, including by Meryl Streep, 77, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, both 43, Stanley Tucci, 65, Simone Ashley, 31, and Lady Gaga, 40, when Christies global auction house hosts an online auction from Sept 1 to 15.

Among the highlights are the Gabriela Hearst Niki dress that Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne) wears during a trip to the Hamptons and accidentally stains.

The item – offered with the stain – is estimated to fetch between US$3,000 (S$3,800) and US$4,000.

Meryl’s Miranda Priestly donned a Dries Van Noten tassel jacket during a Runway staff meeting, and it is set to sell for between US$4,000 and US$6,000.

A Dolce+Gabbana three-piece suit with a cheetah neck scarf worn by Nigel Kipling (Stanley) is also going under the hammer, with an estimate of US$2,000 to US$3,000.

Christies’ auction also features an Elsa Peretti bone cuff worn by Emily Charlton (Emily), which retails for US$107,000, and a prototype pair of red Valentino Garavani Rocketed pumps that Meryl wore in The Devil Wears Prada 2 trailer.

Meryl has signed the pumps, and they are estimated to fetch between US$500 and US$1,000.

Lady Gaga’s Bad Binch TongTong by Terrence Zhou feature dress, seen in the Runway music video, with rapper-singer Doechii, 27, is set to sell for between US3,000 and US$4,000, while a cerulean J.Crew sweater is expected to go for between US$100 and US$200.

Proceeds from the auction – conceived and supported by Meryl following the first movie, which was released in 2006 – will benefit the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

The items will be displayed in a free public exhibition at Christie’s New York at 20 Rockefeller Plaza from Sept 8 to Sept 13.

Jodie Ginsberg, chief executive officer of CPJ, is quoted by WWD.com as saying: “The need to defend press freedom has never been more urgent.

“CPJ is honoured to join forces with partners in the creative industry to spotlight the indispensable role journalists play in holding power to account and keeping the public informed.

“We are thankful for this partnership and special auction, which will have a critical, life-saving impact for many journalists globally.”

Steven Kolb, CEO and president of the CFDA, added: “The charitable auction of looks and experiences tied to The Devil Wears Prada 2 allows bidders to share the excitement and energy of this terrific depiction of the fashion industry all while contributing to important causes that play a starring role in the film’s narrative – fashion and journalism.

“The CFDA is grateful to Disney and the film’s producers for their support of this auction, which recognises CFDA’s important efforts to strengthen creativity and next-generation talent with mentors, resources and business grants via the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.”

The online auction will take place at christies.com.
