Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie apparently made the most of his Golden Globes appearance and pitched himself for his next role.
In an appearance on NBC’s Today, Storrie told the hosts that he spoke to the director during Sunday’s award shows. “I won’t say who, but there’s a director I really, really want to work with that has a movie that should be coming up soon,” he said. “I was like, ‘Hi, I love you. I want to be in your movie.’”
Storrie joked that the director “very quickly” started talking about “anything else,” met with laughter from the hosts. “I don’t think [it’s] a bad sign, maybe he was just trying to connect on a human level,” the actor added.
The 25-year-old, who plays Russian hockey player Ilya Rozanov in the Crave-HBO Max queer hockey drama, made his first appearance on morning television, being interviewed during both the 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. blocks of the show. The show had Storrie, seemingly always down for a good bit, running around the plaza chatting with fans and teaching a masterclass in making a tuna melt (if you know, you know).
Storrie also told Today some tidbits about filming the wildly popular series. He spoke in his Russian accent the entire time he was on set, estimating 80 percent of the people on set never heard his actual voice. The West Texas native joked that many people came up to him at the wrap party saying he “so weird.” He touched upon his chemistry with co-star Hudson Williams, saying he knew immediately that Williams was the one to play Canadian hockey star and Storrie’s character’s love interest, Shane Hollander.
Crave has renewed Heated Rivalry for a second season and HBO Max confirmed it will continue to air the series, but there’s no firm date yet on its return. Storrie suggested in Wednesday’s interview that they might film in the summer as creator and showrunner Jacob Tierney is currently writing. Rachel Reid, the author of the book series Heated Rivalry is based on, announced her latest book, Unrivaled, earlier this week, which will be the third book in the series, following the characters Storrie and Williams play in the series.
Wednesday’s Today appearance is the latest in a long string of press for Storrie and Williams as the show’s reach continues to grow. Storrie made his late night TV debut on Monday, speaking with Seth Meyers on Late Night. Williams made his late night TV debut last week with an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
