Among the many moments that cameras missed — but The Hollywood Reporter caught — at last night’s Oscars? Another Don Julio-fueled mid-show toast, this time with best actor nominee Colman Domingo.
Clad in a custom red shantung silk double-breasted tailored jacket and black trousers by Valentino and sparkling Boucheron jewelry, the Sing Sing actor turned a commercial break into a disco-funk dance party to pay homage to Los Angeles and the city’s resilience amid the devastating wildfires. As Frankie Beverly’s “Before I Let Go” featuring Maze played overhead, Domingo raised Don Julio 1942 margaritas to the crowd and declared, “Happy Oscars, everybody. You need to dance it up!” The 50-milliliter Chaparritos bottles featured an extra special touch: each was custom-engraved with “LA” inside a heart.
“[Last night] was a special night for everyone in Los Angeles, especially after everything that we’ve been through,” the 55-year-old actor tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I was honored to have the chance to celebrate our first responders and the people that make this city so resilient with a dance party — and my friend, Don Julio 1942. After all, you can’t spell ‘tequila’ without ‘LA.’” (Catch a glimpse of Domingo’s toast below.)
The actor was in on the joke at last year’s Academy Awards, when Jimmy Kimmel Live! sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez also handed out tiny tequila bottles. (This year, Rodriguez carried a blinged-out Don Julio bottle into the ceremony.)

Last night’s starry margarita dance party continued Don Julio’s partnership with the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences (AMPAS) and Domingo. The Rustin actor offered a toast with the spirits brand at Saturday night’s Motion Picture Television Fund’s “Night Before” event (for which he served as chair) and at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala. The alcohol is also traditionally served at the Governors Ball, the official afterparty for the Oscars.
