Chen Xiuhuan had been a True Fitness member since 2017, patronising the gym almost three times a week over the years.

The local actress, who turns 61 next month, said she found out about the business’ closure only when she attempted to use the gym’s app.

“It has become such a regular part of my life — the workouts, the classes, the familiar faces, the trainers, and all the sweat we’ve shared along the way. So to see everything come to such a sudden end is honestly heartbreaking,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday (Sept 12).

“What makes it harder is just how sudden everything felt. Yesterday, I was planning my next workout, and today I’m suddenly wondering, ‘Where do I go from here? What’s next?'”

She said it felt strange not knowing where she should go next for her “adrenaline fix”. “I know I’II eventually find somewhere else, but right now, I’m just sad and disappointed.”

True Fitness and True Yoga was previously revealed to be closing all its Singapore outlets after being placed under provisional liquidation.

Their parent company, Kontafarma China Holdings, declared in a bourse listing that the personal fitness chains are unable to continue business due to liabilities.

In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Xiuhuan confirmed she had a lifetime membership since 2017.

She also shared that she had just completed a package of 24 personal training sessions — services that require additional payment.

“I was actually preparing to renew my personal training package, but my daughter happened to return from overseas, so I spent two weeks with her,” she said.

She told the Chinese daily the chances of getting her money back are slim and “practically impossible” as she believes member refunds aren’t a top priority when liquidation happens.

As of Sept 11, 6pm, the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) has received 241 complaints from consumers affected by the closure. In total, consumers reported losses of more than $609,000 in unutilised memberships, packages and services.

Consumers who have unutilised memberships or prepaid packages with True Fitness or True Yoga can approach CASE for assistance at 6277 5100 or visit www.case.org.sg.

In a Facebook post on Sept 11, CASE president Melvin Yong encouraged consumers to exercise caution when making large upfront payments for services, and to consider shorter-term payment arrangements where possible.
