Riverdale alum Charles Melton is officially a dad after his girlfriend, Camille Summers-Valli, gave birth to their first baby.

“Our family,” Melton, 35, captioned a series of Instagram photos on Monday, March 9, from his early days as a father.

The actor didn’t share any details about when his little one was born, but posted a photo cuddling the newborn as well as a family photo of the trio.

“❤️ angels,” Melton’s Riverdale costar Lili Reinhart wrote in the comments section. Marisol Nichols, who played Veronica Lodges’ (Camila Mendes) mom on the CW series, also sent her well-wishes, writing, “Omg! 😍 Congrats Charles!”

“I love him. He was in the Army for 26-plus years,” he told the Los Angeles Times in a December 2023 interview. “Four of those years, my dad was serving in the Gulf War [including] in Desert Storm.”

With his dad away serving in the military, a then 11-year-old Melton took on the role of a father figure in his household.

“He talked about family, responsibility,” he recalled of his dad. “He [described] what a good man was, how a good man would love his family. He said many beautiful things — he was asking me to take care of my sisters and my mom while he’s away. I remember looking at my dad, kind of emotional, but I’m not going to [cry]. I felt, in that moment, that I had to be strong and show my father that I can do this. If I’m crying and begging him to stay, it’s not going to change the fact that he is going to go away for a year. Who knows what could have happened?”

In the years since he found fame, Melton has remained close to his family.

“Moments, they come and go,” he told People in February 2024. “What doesn’t come and go is my family, and they’re with me at every moment. These are the people that love me, that I will be with in every part of my journey in life. They speak truth to me.”

As for his love life, Melton dated his Riverdale costar Mendes on and off from 2018 to 2021. He was later linked to Chase Sui Wonders in 2022 and Chloe Bennet in 2023.

“People need to mind their own f***ing business, honestly,” he told Hunger magazine in 2019, referencing the rabid interest in his relationship status. “I don’t have Twitter and it’s one of the reasons why I don’t read through all my comments on social media because people are always going to talk.”

He continued, “No matter what, people have always talked, even before this age of Instagram, but back then you were less inclined to hear about someone talking about you, and honestly it’s not their place to have any authority over my relationships. Not everyone is going to be a supporter or a fan of your relationship and people need to remember that opinions aren’t facts.”

Melton then shared how his experience in the limelight prompted him to protect his personal life.

“I think, in a sense, I’m a little more cognizant about what I say or do now, but as far as what I decide to post on my social media, it’s my choice to show these parts of my life,” he explained. “If people want to spend their time going out of their way to find out something else about me that maybe I didn’t want to share, then that’s on you.”
