Zubeen Garg Death Case: Popular Bollywood and Assamese singer Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore this year in September. Months after his death, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted the chargesheet in the court on December 12. In the documents, the officials have pressed charges against several close allies of the singer, including his manager Siddhartha Sharma, musician Shekhar Goswami, singer Amritprabha Mahanta and event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta under sections 103 and 106 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Now months after his demise and investigation into his death case, Garg’s cousin Sandipan Garg has been booked under Section 105 BNS.
The case has more accused, as Shyamkanu, Siddhartha and PSOs Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya have also been booked under section 316 BNS. Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19. He was swimming in the sea ahead of attending the Northeast Festival organised under the aegis of the Indian High Commission in Singapore by Shyamkanu Mahanta. After his death, several fans and well-wishers demanded a fair investigation into his death. Soon after, an SIT was formed by the Assam government.
Who Was Zubeen Garg?
The singer was born on November 18, 1972, in Meghalaya’s Tura. His family was closely tied to his ancestral village, Tamulichiga in Jhanji, Jorhat. With his music, he was popular in Assam and Bollywood. Garg was widely known for songs like ya ali, dil tu hi bataa, chokher jole, morom, tomar amar prem, piya re piya re, saiyaan and rama re and to name a few in his credit.
In October this year, his film Roi Roi Binale was released, which made his fans and followers emotional. In the movie, he played the role of a blind man who is a musician by profession. Roi Roi Binale has 11 songs, which were all composed by him. The plot focuses on how the blind musician struggles to build his career. The musical drama movie also stars Joy Kashyap, Angoorlata Deka, Achurjya Borpatra, Mousumi Alifa, Yasashree Bhuyan, Saurabh Hazarika and Kaushik Bharadwaj in key roles. The movie has been directed by Rajesh Bhuyan and produced by Zubeen Garg, Garima Saikia Garg. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 27 minutes. The Assamese musical film has been made on a budget of Rs 5 crore. It hit the silver screens on October 31, 2025, after two months of Zubeen Garg’s death.
